Embalakai Camp Serengeti

Embalakai Camp Serengeti is the brand's founding property, a semi-permanent tented camp in the Banagi area of the central Serengeti. It runs alongside the Nyabogati River, roughly forty minutes north of Seronera airstrip, in country splashed with acacia where the sun drops behind distant hills. Aerial views show the tents threaded loosely through riverine bush rather than lined up, which is what gives the camp its immersed feel. Prides of lion live nearby and leopards have established territories around the camp, so plains game is visible without leaving the deck. There are thirteen tents, configurable for single, double, triple or family occupancy, and the camp can host groups of up to thirty, with netted bedding for babies on request. Each tent runs its own solar unit powering lights, plug sockets and hot water. Inside are a private hot shower and western toilet, a dresser and mirror, hanging space, a storage trunk, and 100 percent cotton bedding with a blanket and duvet for cold nights. Every tent has an outside platform with seating. Toiletries are eco-friendly and biodegradable, sourced from Inaya, a Tanzanian company in Zanzibar that supports local women. A walkie-talkie in each tent reaches the team at any hour. The main tent holds the dining area, looking out over the baboon tree and the river. Breakfast and a three-course dinner are served there, packed lunches go out on game drives, bread and pastries are baked in camp, and fresh produce is flown in. South African house wines are offered. The deck takes sundowners and the fire pit takes the stories afterwards.
