About this stay
Greystoke Mahale by Nomad Tanzania is a Robinson Crusoe-style camp on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in Mahale Mountains National Park — one of the world's premier chimpanzee tracking destinations. The camp features six to eight beach bandas constructed from reclaimed dhows that once sailed the lake, offering barefoot luxury in one of Africa's most remote and pristine wilderness areas.
Each banda features twin or double beds, a dressing area, and en-suite facilities with running water, showers, and flush toilets. The furnishings are rustic yet charming, cut from recycled dhow boats and driftwood. As an eco-lodge, hot water is heated on kerosene burners as needed, embracing the camp's philosophy of minimal environmental impact.
The communal lodge features lounge and dining areas, a reading room, and a sunset bar with views across the lake to the Congo. Stays are full-board with all meals, drinks, and laundry included. Activities include chimpanzee tracking, snorkelling, fishing, and kayaking in the crystal-clear waters of the world's second-deepest lake.
