Itikoni Tented Camp

Itikoni Camp is a semi-permanent tented retreat deep inside Arusha National Park, roughly 12 kilometers from the park gate and about 45 minutes from Kilimanjaro International Airport. Sitting at 6,800 feet beneath the crater of Mount Meru, the camp is surrounded by montane rainforest alive with black-and-white colobus monkeys, bushbuck, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, flamingos and prolific birdlife. Ten spacious luxury double or twin tents are arranged through the forest, each with an en-suite bathroom and hot showers. A cozy lounge tent with a wood-burning stove, small library and games offers a warm gathering spot after a day in the park, alongside a dining tent that serves camp-cooked meals with sweeping views. Itikoni works well both as a standalone Arusha National Park base for game drives, forest walks and waterfall hikes, and as an acclimatisation stop before the three-day Mount Meru climb, which starts directly from camp through forest and moorland to a sunrise summit with views across to Kilimanjaro.
