Mara Kati Kati

Mara Kati Kati is a small seasonal camp in the far north of the Serengeti, run by Tanganyika Wilderness Camps and pitched each year for the months when the wildebeest herds move through the Mara River ecosystem, roughly June to November. Everything about it is mobile: the tents, the mess and the back of house are all built to be taken down again at the end of the season, which keeps the footprint light and the camp close to the action. Guests sleep in walk-in canvas tents with double, twin or triple beds, a private veranda looking out over the grass, and an en-suite bathroom with a flush toilet and a hot shower. One larger tent takes a family of four. The heart of the camp is a single mess tent where meals are served, with a lounge corner for a drink at the end of the day and a campfire outside once the light goes. It is a straightforward, unfussy camp rather than a luxury lodge, and its real asset is where it stands: a short drive from the river crossings that draw people to the northern Serengeti in the first place.
