Miriakamba Hut

Miriakamba Hut sits at roughly 2,514 meters on the Momella Route up Mount Meru, reached after a half day walk through montane forest from Momella Gate. It is the first overnight stop for trekkers and consists of a cluster of simple green roofed dormitory buildings, a separate dining hut where guides and porters prepare meals, and a ranger post staffed by an armed park ranger, since buffalo and elephant pass through the area at night. Rooms are basic dormitory bunks shared between trekkers, with no en-suite bathrooms. Mattresses and blankets are provided, though a sleeping bag is recommended. Facilities are limited to shared toilet and washing blocks, solar powered lighting, and a raised viewing deck that on clear mornings looks out over the plains of Arusha National Park toward Kilimanjaro. There is no electricity for charging devices, no restaurant beyond the communal dining hall, and no hot showers. Miriakamba functions purely as a trekking base camp, not a lodge.
