About this stay
Rufiji River Camp sits directly on the riverbank in the Selous ecosystem of Nyerere National Park, Tanzania's largest protected wilderness and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spacious tented rooms have large beds under mosquito nets, en suite bathrooms with shower and separate toilet, and private decks looking straight over the water. Days revolve around the river itself: game drives through miombo woodland and open floodplains, guided walking safaris, and boat excursions that bring guests close to hippo pods, crocodiles and elephants coming down to drink. The camp is known for exceptional sightings of African wild dog alongside lion, giraffe and over 440 recorded bird species. A central lounge, dining area and pool overlook the river, and sundowners are served on the sandbanks as the sun sets over the water. Rufiji River Camp is run by Foxes Safari Camps and is reached via the Mtemere airstrip. It is open June through late March, closing for the long rains from late March to early June.
