Saddle Hut

Saddle Hut stands at about 3,570 meters on the saddle between Mount Meru and Little Meru, roughly three to four hours climb above Miriakamba Hut. It is smaller and more exposed than Miriakamba: a handful of basic stone and timber buildings with corrugated roofs, offering dormitory style bunk beds and a small communal dining room where trekkers eat before an alpine start. There is no en-suite bathroom, only a shared outdoor toilet block, and no reliable power beyond limited solar lighting. Temperatures drop well below freezing at night. Trekkers typically rest here in the afternoon, acclimatize with a short walk up neighboring Little Meru near Rhino Point, then leave around one or two in the morning for the summit push to Socialist Peak. Saddle Hut is a functional high altitude shelter, not a lodge, and facilities are minimal by design.
