The Jungle Pearl Resort

The Jungle Pearl Resort sits in the heart of Mto wa Mbu, the irrigated farming village that spills out below the Rift Valley escarpment on the edge of Lake Manyara. It is roughly ten minutes from the park gate, 23 km from Karatu, about an hour from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and three to four hours by road from Arusha, which makes it a natural first or last stop on the northern circuit. The property describes its own style as contemporary minimalism carried by strong local craft, and it was hand built by the surrounding community. Accommodation is deliberately varied rather than uniform. Guests choose between Maasai bomas, a twin boma, garden and round houses, rooms angled toward the farm, the herb garden or the jungle, and a campsite for couples or groups. Rooms come with en suite bathrooms, mosquito nets, verandas and generous sitting areas. Dining runs from the main restaurant and bar to a Moroccan lounge and dinner served out in the bush, with international and local dishes and produce drawn from the resort's own gardens and farm. Evenings gather around the fire boma. What distinguishes it is the village itself. Rather than a fenced compound, the lodge opens onto banana farms and rice fields, craft markets, waterfall walks and bike or quad rides toward the lakeshore, alongside the usual game drives into Manyara, Tarangire and the Crater.
