3-Day Game Drive on Akagera National Park

After breakfast, your Makisala guide will meet you at your hotel or the airport if you're arriving in the morning. You will then start a drive east toward Akagera National Park. Upon arrival, you'll check in at the park reception before continuing to Ruzizi Tented Lodge, where you'll settle in and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, you'll head out for your first game drive, keeping an eye out for zebras, antelopes, buffaloes, and other wildlife. Later, you'll make your way to Lake Ihema for a peaceful 1.5-hour boat safari. This experience brings you close to hippos, crocodiles, and an array of water birds around Nyirabiyoro Island. You'll return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay surrounded by Akagera’s wilderness.

After breakfast, you'll meet your guide and set off with your packed lunch for a full-day game drive through Akagera. You’ll traverse the park from south to north, exploring the wide-open Kilala and Mohana plains, where wildlife sightings are especially rewarding depending on the season. Expect encounters with elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and antelopes. At midday, your guide will choose a scenic picnic spot where you’ll enjoy your packed lunch before continuing your adventure through the wilderness. Later in the afternoon, you’ll make your way back toward the southern section of the park, keeping an eye out for any species you might have missed earlier. As night falls, you'll head out again for a night game drive, where you can spot animals such as leopards, hyenas, genet cats, aardvarks, jackals, and owls. After the night safari, you'll return to your lodge for dinner and a peaceful overnight stay.

In the morning, after enjoying your late breakfast, a Makisala driver-guide will come to take you then you will go for a short game drive in the south to verify if there are any other animal species that you can see on the last day. Afterward, you'll have a drive back to Kigali and get dropped off at your hotel/residence or at the airport, depending on your flight time back home.
