Machame Gate (1,800m) to Machame Camp (3,020m)
Trek through dense montane rainforest with possible colobus monkey sightings. Steady climb of 1,220m on a well-worn trail to camp at the forest edge.

Leave the forest behind and enter the heath and moorland zone. Rocky terrain with giant groundsels and sweeping views of Mount Meru. Camp on the vast Shira Plateau.

Critical acclimatization day: ascend to Lava Tower at 4,630m then descend to Barranco Camp. Walk high, sleep low for optimal altitude adaptation. Stunning views of the Western Breach.

Scale the famous Barranco Wall — a thrilling hands-on scramble up a 257m rock face. Cross the Karanga Valley to camp at the last water point before the summit.

Short ascent through alpine desert to high camp on an exposed ridge. Arrive early afternoon, eat dinner, and rest before the midnight summit attempt.

Midnight departure up steep scree. Reach Stella Point at dawn, then walk the crater rim to Uhuru Peak. Descend past Barafu to Mweka Camp in the forest zone.
