Rongai Gate (1,950m) to Simba Camp (2,625m)
Drive to the northern side of Kilimanjaro. Trek through pine and juniper forest — distinctly different from the southern tropical forests. Gentle trail with views into Kenya.

Climb through upper forest into rolling heath and moorland. The rugged pinnacles of Mawenzi peak become increasingly prominent to the east.

Steep ascent to Mawenzi Tarn, an alpine lake beneath the towering rock faces of Mawenzi. One of the most dramatic campsites on Kilimanjaro.

Rest day with an acclimatization hike toward the base of Mawenzi peak (4,600-4,800m). Walk high, sleep low preparation for the summit push.

Cross the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo through stark alpine desert. Arrive at School Hut for early dinner and rest before summit night.

Midnight summit push via Gilman's Point and the crater rim to Uhuru Peak. Descend via the Marangu Route to Horombo Hut for different scenery on the way down.

Final descent through moorland and rainforest via the Marangu Route. Certificate collection and transfer to Moshi.
