Serengeti National Park Climate Overview
The climate in Serengeti National Park is generally mild and pleasant, with daytime temperatures that rarely get very hot. Nights and early mornings can be quite cool or even cold, so warm clothing is recommended for those times of day.
Dry Season (June to October)
From June through October, the weather is mostly dry and sunny with average daytime temperatures around 26°C (79°F). Clear skies dominate, and nighttime lows drop to about 14°C (57°F). June to September can experience occasional cold fronts with temperatures nearing freezing early morning. By October, short rains may begin if the season arrives early.
Wet Season (November to May)
The rainy season in Serengeti is split into two parts: the short rains typically occur between November and December, bringing unpredictable showers that rarely last all day and should not disrupt safari plans. January and February usually offer a dry spell between these rains, though this period’s exact timing varies. The long rains from March to May bring the heaviest rainfall, with frequent showers and cloudy days, especially in April. Despite the rain, temperatures remain moderate, averaging 27°C (81°F) in the afternoon and 15°C (59°F) overnight.
