Serengeti Wildlife
Wildlife Highlights
The park is most famous for the monumental annual migration where millions of animals migrate for fresh grazing grounds. Over 1.5 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebras, and 300,000 Thomson's gazelles move in this event, followed closely by predators that create thrilling hunting scenes. Other carnivores like spotted hyenas, golden jackals, and black-backed jackals are frequently encountered throughout the Serengeti.
Best Wildlife Viewing Times
Serengeti offers remarkable wildlife viewing opportunities all year. The migration can be seen crossing the Grumeti River during June and July, while the renowned Mara River crossings are typically visible in August and September in the park’s northern reaches. The months of January and February mark the prime time to witness the wildebeest calving season.
