The park hosts several unique antelope species adapted to dry environments, such as the rare fringe-eared oryx and the long-necked gerenuk. The southern wetlands provide additional wildlife viewing chances, where elephants and buffalo wallow. The Silale Swamp area sometimes reveals a pride of lions and even elusive wild dogs.
Best Wildlife Viewing Time
The prime time for wildlife spotting is from July to November when water sources outside the park dry up, drawing animals in large numbers to Tarangire River. During this time, sparser vegetation makes animal spotting easier. After December, many animals leave the park, reducing the viewing quality. More about best time to visit Tarangire
