How to Reach Akagera National Park

Your typical access point into Rwanda is via Kigali International Airport (KGL), located near the capital Kigali.

Akagera National Park lies about 110km (68 miles) east of Kigali, with a driving time of roughly 2 ½ hours. The national speed limit is 60 km/h. Most visitors embark on a guided 4x4 safari tour that includes a driver-guide.

There are no scheduled domestic flights to Akagera; however, Akagera Aviation offers charter helicopter services within Rwanda. A helicopter flight from Kigali to Akagera takes around 20 minutes.
